Nemoto Sensei

It was a cold winter’s day when we arrived in Iwama; our first training session was buki-waza in the morning with close to zero degree temperature.Our bodies were frozen and numb, I couldn’t even feel my feet and half the time I had trouble feeling that there was actually a Jo in my hands...but I wouldn’t have missed the class for the world. Training with Nemoto Sensei was such a unique experience that you tend to block out "what seems to be small things" (at the time) like that.

Nemoto Sensei a 6th dan who trained as a child with O-Sensei and then under Saito Sensei is greatly known to Iwama Ryu practitioners both in Japan and throughout the world.  His attention to detail, his precise technique and his ability to communicate on higher levels with all deshi make training under him a fantastic opportunity and experience not to be missed by deshi wanting to take their technique to a higher level.

Aikido is constantly evolving but there are only a few Sensei’s that seem to teach “mutashi-waza” (old style technique) like Nemoto Sensei can, because he has trained under both the founder and Saito Sensei His technique is from an era which time is almost forgetting.This kind of training and knowledge as time goes on is becoming almost impossible to ascertain.

This unique experience allows you to have personal tutelage directly from Nemoto Sensei in both Weapons (Buki-waza) and Open Hand (tachi-waza) twice daily.  Nemoto Sensei’s kind heartedness and warmth transcends through his teachings and his attitude toward Aikido and it is this that encourages you to soak in all that Nemoto Sensei gives.

Nemoto Sensei’s warmth to foreigners is second to none as he follows the traditions of Saito Sensei and welcomes anyone with open arms and an open heart.  It is important to note that deshi must be prepared as much as possible to adapt to the training and the environment as it will most likely be different from what the deshi is used to. Also arriving with a “beginners mind” is extremely important as this will encourage you to absorb all the information and knowledge that Hiroki Nemoto Sensei is placing in front of you.
